Welcome to our Web siteMISSION STATEMENT “The mission of the Crook County Sheriff’s Office is to work in partnership with all citizens to preserve life, maintain human rights, and to protect property with the ultimate goal of maintaining and/or improving the quality of life in our county; to hold ourselves accountable to our community and to recognized professional law enforcement standards.” The Office of Sheriff is a constitutional office for the State of Oregon and is the only elected law enforcement position in the state or in the country for that matter. It has been important over the years that the "Sheriff" is elected and thus accountable directly to the people. The "Sheriff" answers only to the people and is not directed by any other body, elected or appointed person. Being answerable only to the voters provides for integrity in enforcing the law by not having a "boss" that might dictate otherwise. Additionally the current Sheriff, Sheriff Rodd Clark, has an open door policy to the public and will see you if you drop by and he is available or you can make an appointment to insure he will be in when you can come by. The Sheriff is interested in your opinions and observations and holds several "Town Hall Meetings" at two different times each year in outlying areas just to meet and hear from the citizens where it is easy for them to attend. Although the sheriff's office has struggled at times over the years for appropriate funding and adequate trained personnel it has persevered until it has become the modern full-service law enforcement agency that it is today. The County Government and the Sheriff are fiscal conservatives and thus are cautious with how money in appropriated for growth to meet service requirements. We still only have, at times during each day, one deputy on duty for the entire county (population 20,600 and 2991 square miles) but we are working with County Government to add enough deputies to have a minimum of two on duty at any given time both for officer safety issues and to timely meet the requests for service from the community. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you view the growth of the county our needs are increasing at a significant rate, as the county is one of the fastest growing in the state. The Sheriff's Office consists of several different divisions with the duties and employees listed below: 1. Administrative and Records Division: a.
