Criminal Investigation 

Major and follow up investigations for the Crook County Sheriff's Office are assigned to our Criminal Detective on a daily basis. A great many of the cases turned over to the detective involve misdemeanor offenses such as criminal trespass and minor thefts. A growing number of the cases, however, involve felonies such as burglary, larceny, fraud and various sexual crimes.

The detective works closely with agencies from other jurisdictions such as the Prineville Police Department and other Tri-County Law Enforcement Agency’s since crime often crosses jurisdictional borderlines. The detective relies heavily on the help of the public. Often the detective is called to a scene after the crime occurs and must talk to neighbors or friends who may provide clues needed to clear the case and make an arrest.

The clearance rate for crime in Crook County has remained high despite the fact that the number of cases investigated has risen steadily.
